"Cadillac Day For The King's Kids"

                                                                                  April 15, 2009

Can you picture Cal Lord sitting behind the wheel of a Cadillac? Does that
sound silly? Then you know me. The closest I ever came to doing
something so crazy was a few months before my 40th birthday. I told my
wife, Lori, that I wanted a candy apple red mustang convertible for my big
day. I ended up with a red, four door, Honda Civic. It was much more
practical and more in tune with my image.
This Cadillac talk came up the other day when a friend of mine, Ray,
offered to swap my Honda for a 1988 Cadillac he had. I almost fell over.
The Cadillac was the symbol of prestige when I was growing up. My father
used to tell me that you could tell who had made it in life by the type of car
they drove. People who had made it to the top were the ones who owned
the Cadillacs.
Some things have changed since I was a kid. Today people get more
excited about owning a Lexus, a Hummer, a Mercedes or a BMW. Yet for
us baby boomers, owning a Cadillac remains a symbol of having achieved a
level of significance in life. It says we are somebody.
I am happy with my Toyota Corolla. I am just an average guy. The truth is
that I would feel strange driving a luxury car. When I mentioned this to
another friend of mine he disagreed with me. He said I should go for it. He
said that if the cars we drive said anything about our status, then we should
all be driving Cadillacs.
His reasoning was simple. We are the King's Kids. Forget what the world
says about us. Our faith tells us that in Christ we have become members of
God's family. He is our father and we are joint heirs with Jesus. Once we
were nobody. We were orphans left to find our own way in the world.
Today, because of our faith, we have been given a hope and future and God
calls us his own.
You may think of yourself as just another person who goes to church on
Sunday but God sees you as a beloved son or daughter. He wants to bless
you. He wants to be a big part of your life. He wants to walk with you
through the ups and downs of your journey. All you need to do is ask and
God will be with you. You may not get a Cadillac but who needs it? You
will be riding in style because you will be riding shotgun with the King of
Kings?
God Bless! See you in Church. Cal
