 Who Is Cleaning Your World?

                                                              April 20, 2005
Dear friends,

If you stop by our house on Wednesday night you might catch us running
around,  picking up and putting everything in order. All the dishes get
washed and put away. The laundry baskets are emptied and the garbage
taken out. When we leave on Thursday morning the house is ready for the
cleaning service to come in.

Are you puzzled? My kids laugh at this ritual. They ask me how come we
clean up when we are paying someone to come in and do the work for us.
My answer to them is that it makes us feel good to know that at the end of
the day the house will be clean. We want the cleaning woman to
concentrate on doing the jobs that we don't have time for or can't do
ourselves.  It's the heavy duty stuff that we need help with.

The same thing is true with life in general. There are a lot of things that we
can control. We can make choices on how we live our lives and what we
will do. We can steer clear of bad habits. We can reach out and love our
neighbors. We can make the world a brighter place by practicing random
acts of kindness. If we need inspiration for doing these things, God is
always there pointing the way.

Having said this, we all know that there are some things that we just can't
seem to get a handle on. Some of us struggle without tempers or are
caught up in addictive behaviors. Others are sinking in financial problems
or hurting because of troubles in their interpersonal relationships. Life can
overwhelm us at times.

That's when we need to call on God for help. We need to invite Him in to
help us clean up the messes in our lives. There is no problem too big for
God. The Prophet Isaiah quotes God and says to us, "Though your sins
are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow."  The good news is that
God can come in and do the things we cannot do. He can bring healing and
forgiveness and make us whole again. All we have to do is call on Him and
He comes. His grace covers us and we can look at life with renewed hope.

I love to come home on a Thursday afternoon after Celine has been in to
clean. The whole house smells fresh and clean and it makes me feel
wonderful. So it is with God when He has come into your life with a
blessing.

God bless!  See You In Church.  Cal
