We believe that our God calls us to reach out to the community and share the
love of Christ. We do this in many different ways.
Loving Our Neighbors is our Mission
Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our
mind, all our soul and all our strength. Then he added a second which was like it that told us to
love our neighbors as our selves. That is our Christian calling and also the work of the church. In
the last fifteen years many thoughtful Christians have reflected on this and started a push to get
our churches to become more missional minded.

The definition of a missional church is an authentic faith community whose primary focus is
serving outward, on mission with God bringing Christ’s love alive in their neighborhood and
beyond. Last Spring we signed on with our partners at National Ministries of the American
Baptist Church USA to explore what it means to be a missional church.

Our Missional Church Committee has already begun to reach out to the many families within our
community.  Their first couple of projects were the distribution of "Winter Survival Kits", and a
Thank You visit to our neighbors at the Firehouse and Police Department, both events were a
great success. We look forward to many more projects in the near future.
Interfaith Luncheon
In 2006 we began serving a community
luncheon to the less fortunate in the city of
Norwich. On the third Sunday of each
month we cook and serve lunch to about
seventy people as they make their way up to
the hall at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran
Church.

This is part of a wider community ministry in
which five groups take turns providing the
meal. On the first week of the month the meal
is served by the folks at St. Marks Lutheran
Church. On the second Sunday the meal is
served at the Salvation Army Building on
Main Street. We serve at St. Marks on the
third Sunday. On the last Sunday of the
month the meal is served at Lee Memorial
Methodist Church. When there is a fifth
Sunday, the United Congregational Church
jumps in and serves lunch on the fourth
week.
If you would like to get involved with this
group, speak to one of the members. The
committee includes: Cynthia Strouse,
Amanda Duntz, Erica Corbett, Curt
Brockway, Sue Ferguson, and Peter Ingoglia
CROP Walk for
World Hunger
Many of our members have
walked or sponsored walkers
for the last twenty years. We
have also served as a rest
station for those who pass our
church during the walk.
Co-ordinated by Church World
Service and the local clergy
association, this walk-a-thon
raised money to provide food
for those in need.  25% of the
profit comes right back to
Norwich to assist the Clergy
Food Pantry and St. Vincent De
Paul Soup Kitchen.
