Will You Answer The Call?

As we consider the direction of
our ministry in 2006, God is
calling all of us to think and
pray about what we have to
offer. What will you say when
he calls?

From October 23 through November 20,
members and friends of our church family are
sharing their thoughts on God's call in their lives.

George Strouse shares his thoughts on Stewardship:

I’m here this morning to talk about stewardship and that’s too bad.  Now before I see
too many heads nod in agreement let me explain. It’s too bad we elevate stewardship
and talk about it only once a year. Stewardship is not an annual event. We should talk
more about stewardship throughout the year. We associate stewardship only with our
Annual Stewardship campaign, during which we ask for pledges in support of our
ministry here at First Baptist. We therefore tend to think of money or fund raising
whenever we hear the word stewardship. But that’s not really what stewardship is all
about.  Stewardship is about how we live our lives, day in and day out. A good steward
is the person who takes care of whatever he or she has been entrusted, uses it well
and to good purpose...

June Deptulski shares her thoughts on Stewardship:

This year’s stewardship campaign is about far more than giving  money. It is about
trusting God to do what He says he will do... Back in 1986, I was working in a shipyard.
I had just separated from my son’s father and was having tough time. That is when a
friend of mine, Denise Sansone, asked me to go to her church. She was really
persistent, and I finally gave in and told her I would meet her at church. Part of me just
wanted her to stop asking me although I was also a little curious as to what sparked
her interest so much. After just one service, I was hooked. I began hearing the Bible in
a way. The one thing that troubled me was the pastor’s preaching on tithing. I had to
agree that it was biblical, but I just couldn’t see how it could “work”, especially for
someone like me. I was a single parent making a little over $300 a week...

Bob Sullivan shares his thoughts on Stewardship:

As a relative newcomer to First Baptist Church, I want to express my thankfulness to
God for leading me here, to Karen Murray for the role she played in encouraging me
to come here and to all of you for making me feel welcome and even useful
here.
One of my observations of this church is that it’s full of good stewards. This is a very
active and alive congregation that provides numerous and varied opportunities for
people to get involved and be helpful.  Everyone is expected to contribute and it
appears to me that everyone does.

Dave Murray shares his thoughts on Stewardship:

A few weeks ago the Pastor told the story from John 9 about  a man who was blind
from birth. Jesus healed that man and offered  him a whole new life on one condition.
That he follow his command  to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. The man did as
Jesus  commanded and he was healed.
I have found that when we do as the Lord commands we too will be blessed. I would
like to share with you a brief window of my life especially as it pertains to my
stewardship of our finances. My story is simple.  I grew up in Groton, graduated from
Fitch High School,  was in the service, got out and went to work at Dow Chemical and
soon got married and started a family. My wife and I raised four children and enjoyed
life. During that whole span I knew little about God and the church.

Lori Lord shares her thoughts on Stewardship:

Hello, my name is Lori Lord, I promise to only take a few moments
of service time.  I don’t think any of us would want Cal to have to
shorten his sermon this morning. After all, that's what we pay him for.
Over the years I have heard more than once that some people would be surprised
that the pastor’s family supports the church with a financial pledge.  After all, aren’t we
the recipients of a large portion of the church’s funds?  Would you believe that even
though Cal only works one day a week his salary accounts for about half of the yearly
budget!!  But all kidding aside, the reason we give is larger than just finances.  We
give because God has called us to support local industry in His name.
