"Working With The Master"
October 28, 2009
Would you believe me if I told you I helped lay a new floor in our kitchen
this week? I did. Don't laugh. Well, I helped more than I actually worked.
My brother-in-law, Tim, brought all the tools and did most of the
measuring, cutting and laying of the tiles. I handed him what he needed and
brought him snacks, lunch and cold drink.
He probably could have done the job by himself, but he let me hang out
and made me feel useful. We spent the better part of two days laying the
tile. I watched. I learned. I was amazed by the transformation that took
place in such a short time. It was like a miracle.
I felt a great deal of pride this morning when I woke up and looked at the
floor. To know that you are part of something that you couldn't have done
alone is pretty awesome. When I got to church the thought hit me that the
same thing happens every day when we walk with the Lord.
Just look at some of the heroes of our faith. Who parted the sea when
Moses raised his rod.? Who defeated Goliath and sent the Philistines running
when David grabbed his sling and stood his ground? Who was responsible
for stopping the lion's jaws when Daniel was thrown into their den? Who
turned over the kingdom to Esther when she asked for the king to spare her
people? We give them all the credit but it was really God that made things
happen.
The good news is that miracles are still happening today. When we allow
God to work in and through us some pretty amazing things happen. Every
day I pray a simple prayer. "God, direct my steps to the places where I can
serve you best." You should try it sometime.
The other night I was coming home from dropping my daughter off at a
friend's house. There was a young man walking down the street and he
stopped me. He told me he needed help. I recognized him immediately. As
soon as he recognized me he began to cry. He told me he had just finished
asking God for help when I came along. He told me I was the answer to his
prayer. Imagine that.
The truth is that all of us are the answer to someone's prayer. You see
God is the master and he allows us to work side by side with him in the
transformation of the world. All we need to do is accept his invitation and
then watch him as he works miracles all around us. So get out there and
walk with God this week. Let him make you look good as he works some
miracles through you.
God Bless. See you in church. Cal.
